Star Trek 3 will be closest yet to original TV series

Bob Orci, the director of the upcoming Star Trek 3, said that the third movie would be the closest yet to the original TV series.

According to Badass Digest, Orci suggested that while the first and second films were essentially origin stories for the characters we know from the old franchise, this third film brings the characters closer to where they were in the classic series.

"So in this movie they are closer than they are to the original series characters that you have ever seen." Orci said. “They have set off on their five-year mission.”

Orci also noted that this film will take the crew into deep space, as they begin the mission they embarked upon at the end of Star Trek Into Darkness, a mission which also is the setting for the original TV series.

Bob Orci, who was a co-writer and producer on Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness. He was promoted to director when J.J Abrams left to direct Star Wars: Episode VII.

According to Screen Rant, Star Trek 3 is scheduled to release in 2016, in time for the franchise’s 50th anniversary.
