Tom Hardy will be joining Leonardo DiCaprio in Alejandro González Iñárritu's 'The Revenant'

Tom Hardy will indeed be reuniting with his Inception co-star Leonardo DiCaprio in The Revenant, which will be directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu.

Hardy was first linked to the project at the end of May by the blog Schmoes Know, but it there was radio silence on the topic for several weeks. That changed until today, when TheWrap confirmed that Hardy joined the project.

Variety also reported last week that Will Poulter (We’re The Millers) joined the film.

The Revenant sounds like a return to heavy drama for Iñárritu, who took a break with Birdman, which hits theaters this fall. Iñárritualso directed Babel and 21 Grams. Birdman is his first film since 2010’s Biutiful.

The new project is based on Michael Punke’s novel The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge, in which a fur trapper is left for dead and robbed. The man then searches for the criminals, looking for revenge. DiCaprio will play the fur trapper.

New Regency and RatPac are co-financing. Production will start in February. Iñárritu and Mark L. Smith wrote the script and Oscar winner Emmanuel Lubinski is shooting it.
