Angelina Jolie is an actress, film director, and screenwriter. Jolie appeared in over 30 feature films, and served as a director and writer for one. Throughout her career, she has received an Academy Award, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, and was named Hollywood’s highest-paid actress by Forbes in 2009, 2011 and 2013.

Jolie made her screen debut when she was a child alongside her father, Jon Voight, in Lookin’ to Get Out, but she truly rose to fame a decade later with the low-budget production Cyborg 2. Her first leading role in a major film was in the thriller Hackers. She starred in the critically acclaimed biographical films George Wallace and Gia, and won her first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Girl, Interrupted.
Jolie portrayed the video game heroine Lara Croft in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, and reprised her role for the sequel The Cradle of Life. She went on to have a stream of action films including Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Wanted, and Salt. She received further critical acclaim for her roles in A Mighty Heart and Changeling, which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. Jolie made her directorial debut with the wartime drama In the Land of Blood and Honey, and also served as writer and producer.
Jolie can be seen in the Disney film Maleficent, playing the evil queen from the popular fairy tale Sleeping Beauty, now playing in theaters.

10. Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life
In this second installment of the Tomb Raider film franchise, Lara Croft goes on a quest to find Pandora’s Box before an evil scientist gets his hands on it. She recruits a former Marine turned mercenary to assist her in the search.
Jolie’s performance was highly praised, despite the negative reviews from critics. However, reviewers did agree that Cradle of Life was an improvement from the first film in terms of action and story line.

9. Mr. & Mrs. Smith
Mr. & Mrs. Smith follows a married couple who is surprised to learn that they are both assassins hired by competing agencies to kill each other.
The film was a box office success, and is noted to be the beginning of Joli and Brad Pitts relationship. Jolie and Pitt were praised for their chemistry, and the film overall had the perfect amount of comedy and humor.

8. Kung Fu Panda
Kung Fu Panda tells the story of Po the Panda who finds himself chosen as the Dragon Warrior, despite the fact that he is overweight and a completely unskilled at martial arts.
Jolie plays Master Tigress. The film received great reviews and was a box office success in the U.S and internationally.
Salt tells the story of a CIA agent who goes on the run after a defector accuses her of being a Russian spy. She must use clues from her past to try and clear her name.
The film overall received good reviews, and was praised for its stunt work and plot. Jolie’s was also praised for her convincing role.
Wanted follows Wesley Gibson (James McAvoy), an account manager who discovers that he is the son of a professional assassin. He decides to join the Fraternity, a secret society in which his father worked, and learns he has the same killing abilities.
The film received positive reviews and was an international success.
Maleficent is the live-action re-imagining of Walt Disney’s animated film Sleeping Beauty, and portrays the story from the side of the villainess Maleficent.
The film was released May 30 and has already generated large numbers. Critics find the story to be a little dull, but agree that Jolie brings a lot of depth to the character, and is the highlight of the entire film.

A Mighty Heart tells the story of Mariane Pearl (Jolie), a woman who embarks on a search to find her journalist husband, Daniel (Dan Futterman), when he goes missing in Pakistan.
The film failed financially, but was highly praised by critics. Many critics find Jolie’s performance to be her finest artistic achievement to date. She earned Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for Best Actress
Changeling tell the story of a mother (Jolie) who takes on the LAPD when they try to pass off an obvious impostor as her missing child, while also refusing to give up hope that she will find him one day.
The film received critical acclaim. Jolie’s convincing and powerful role was highly praised by critics. She earned Academy Award, BAFTA, Golden Globe, and SAG Award nominations for her role.
Gia is an HBO film which tells the story of Gia Carangi (Jolie), a top fashion model from the late 1970s. It follows her rise to the top of the modeling industry, leading to her untimely death from AIDS at age 26.
Jolie earned a Golden Globe and SAG Award for Best Actress. She was also nominated for an Emmy.
