TV Ratings: 'Halt and Catch Fire' premieres soft, 'Game of Thrones' remains strong

AMC's newest series Halt and Catch Fire debuted to soft numbers on Sunday night, while Game of Thrones remained steady with its strong pre-Memorial Day holiday weekend numbers.

AMC's tech series, starring Le Pace, only managed to snag 1.2 million viewers for the drama's first telecast, pulling in just 433,000 in the 18-49 demographic, according to The Hollywood Reporter. That's nearly 900,000 viewers down from AMC's last premiere, when Turn debuted in April.

Viewership for the first night might have been blunted somewhat due to AMC making the show available two weeks ahead of its premiere online as the network sought to interest viewers. Halt supposedly has had hundreds of thousands of views between AMC On-Demand, AMC.com and Tumblr, AMC president Charlie Collier said, so the network might be more interested in seeing what next Sunday's numbers look like.

Meanwhile, Game of Thrones continued strong back after a weekend off, reports Entertainment Weekly. The latest episode pulled in 7.2 million viewers during the initial telecast and bumped up to 8.2 million with the encore added in. The initial telecast is about even with the May 18 episode, which set a series high.

Freshman comedy Silicon Valley bowed out for the season with 2 million viewers between both telecasts and Veep followed with a combined 1.3 million viewers. Last Week Tonight with John Oliver sagged on the night to 1.2 million viewers between both telecasts.
