TV reporters busted for OWI within day of each other

A TV anchor and reporter for the same station in Des Moines, Iowa have been arrested for drunk driving within 24 hours of one another.

According to the Des Moines Register, reporter for WHO-TV Sonya Heitshusen and her colleague, Erik Wheater, were both charged with first-offense operating while intoxicated over the weekend.

Wheater was stopped by officers on Friday morning because he did have a front license plate on his vehicle.

Authorities said the anchor failed sobriety tests and a Breathalyzer revealed that his blood-alcohol level was .125%, which is higher than the legal limit of .008%. He was arrested and charged with OWI.

The newspaper reported that fellow WHO-TV reporter, Sonya Heitshusen, was pulled over for allegedly driving on the wrong side of the street early Saturday morning.

Officers said that the journalist appeared to be intoxicated and would not exit her vehicle or submit to a field sobriety test. She was then booked and also charged with OWI.

The New York Daily News noted that the station has not yet commented on either of the arrest.
