'Young and the Restless,' Ellen DeGeneres take home Daytime Emmys

The Daytime Emmys were held last night in Beverly Hills. While the show might not go down as the best awards ceremony in recent memory, there was at least plenty of hardware to go around. Among the winners of the night were Ellen DeGeneres, The Young And The Restless and Steve Harvey.

The 41st annual ceremony already got the dubious honor of being streamed only online. As The Washington Post notes, the TV Academy failed to get a TV deal, making it the first ceremony in Daytime Emmys history not broadcast on TV.

The Post’s TV critic slammed the entire proceedings, including a disastrous red carpet, where stars were not asked anything about their shows. Host Kathy Griffin summed the entire show up when she yelled, “Welcome to the [expletive]-show!” right at the start.

With that out of the way, the awards did have to be presented. After all, daytime talent work as hard as the primetime people do. As the Associated Press points out, CBS’ The Young and the Restless came home with six awards, including best drama series. However, Days of Our Lives star Eileen Davidson won best actress in a drama.

Harvey won two awards - one for game show host for Family Feud and another for outstanding informative talk show. DeGeneres won her eighth Emmy for outstanding entertainment talk show for The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Good Morning America won best morning program.

Un Nuevo Dia won best morning program in Spanish, as new daytime Spanish Emmys were introduced this year. Clix won best Spanish entertainment program and El Gordo y la Flaca won for its talent.

CBS won a total of 14 awards, between last night and the earlier Creative Arts technical achievement awards. PBS came in a close second with 13 awards.

Other noteworthy awards included best game show for Jeopardy! and a tie for best daytime talk show host - Katie Couric and Dr. Mehmet Oz.
