Anna Paquin talks social perception of LGBTQ community

True Blood star and mother of two Anna Paquin has opened up about bisexuality and is fighting cruel assumptions about people who do not fit heteronormative ideals.

Paquin spoke to HuffPost Live this week, highlighting her stance on LGBTQ issues. As for the best way to combat society’s hesitation to accept people with varying sexual orientations and gender identities, Paquin maintained that normalization is the key to victory. "The reason I feel like it's important to talk about this stuff is that the more normal, and frankly, mundane and boring this stuff becomes, I think the better it's going to be for everyone who is part of our community," Paquin said.

"There's people that are going to go to their grave thinking what they think about the LGBT community," she said of dealing with those who are reluctant to accept people of different sexual, gender and romantic orientations. "That's their problem, not mine.”

Paquin, who came out as bisexual in 2010, also made an important point about the nature of bisexuality. Many people from all sorts of social backgrounds and sexual orientations frown upon bisexuality because of the belief that this particular life choice leads to tricky romantic relationships. However, Paquin rightly emphasized that this widely held idea is not true. “…There's people that think that monogamy and bisexuality are mutually exclusive. Again, their problem, not mine.”
