Carmelo Anthony has decided to stay with the New York Knicks after originally opting out of his contract and becoming a free agent.

According to the New York Daily News, a source close to Carmelo said Carmelo will re-sign with the Knicks after going back and forth over the decision.

“He is really torn because this is the biggest decision of his career. But he wants to get it done in New York. He told me he believes in Phil.”

The Knicks can offer Carmelo the biggest contract of any NBA team at five-years, and $129 million, according to Fox Sports.

Carmelo has been offered a max deal four-year deal by the Los Angeles Lakers and the Chicago Bulls, another team closely linked to Carmelo, would have to do a sign-and-trade in order for Carmelo to get near the max.

The source also told the New York Daily News that Carmelo was waiting to see if the Knicks would make the moves to put together a championship capable team.

Last season Carmelo averaged 27.4 PPG, which was only second to Oklahoma City star Kevin Durant, according to ESPN.

Thursday is the first day that free agents can sign contracts with new teams.
