Cavaliers trade three players, create cap space in hopes of landing LeBron James

The Cleveland Cavaliers have traded Jarrett Jack, Sergey Karasev and Tyler Zeller to make more salary-cap space in hopes of landing LeBron James.

The Cavaliers traded Jack and Karasev to the Brooklyn Nets for a future prospect. Zeller was traded along with a protected 2016 first round pick and the Nets Marcus Thornton to the Boston Celtics. The Cavaliers will receive a future second round pick from the Celtics in exchange, according to ESPN.com.

The trade opens up $21.7 million in cap space, which Cleveland will hope to entice James with.

The Cavaliers now have enough cap space to sign James to the maximum $20.7 million contract per year, according to Yahoo Sports.

Jack was on the Cavaliers for one season after signing a four-year $25 million deal last year. They had hoped he could lead the young Cavaliers team.

Karasev was the 19 overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft by the Cavaliers. Last year he average 1.7 PPG in 7.1 MPG, according to ESPN.

Zeller was a first round draft pick in 2013 by the Dallas Mavericks, but was then traded to Cleveland. Last season, he averaged 5.7 PPG in 15.0 MPG.

ESPN also reported that the Cavaliers are trying to land Ray Allen in hopes of landing James.
