Dallas Cowboys rookie DE DeMarcus Lawrence out two months after breaking foot

July 30 16:28 2014

The Dallas Cowboys will be without their second round pick from this year NFL draft, defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, after he broke his foot during training camp on Tuesday.

According to the Star-Telegram, Lawrence was doing a drill against left tackle Tyron Smith and fell to the ground grabbing his right foot.

He will be out for 8-12 weeks, which means the earliest he could come back is during Week 4 and the latest during Week 8, according to CBS Sports.

During the 2014 draft, the Cowboys traded up into the 34th overall spot to get Lawrence who was expected to help replace the loss of defensive ends DeMarcus Ware and Jason Hatcher.

Lawrence set a goal of 10 sacks for his rookie season early this year, according to Fox Sports.

This is the latest injury to one of the worst defenses from last season. In May, linebacker Sean Lee tore his ACL while practicing with the team, as we previously reported.

Last year, while in college at Boise State, Lawrence had 72 total tackles and 10.5 sacks, according to ESPN Stats.
