Former Detroit Tigers pitcher Evan Reed charged with sexual assault

A former Detroit Tigers pitcher who now plays for their Triple-A affiliate, the Toledo Mud Hens, has been charged with sexual assault after a police investigation in Detroit.

According to USA Today Evan Reed met a woman on March 30. The pair later took a taxi to a hotel, where the woman say’s Reed sexually assaulted her the next morning.

He was charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct. The maximum penalty for Reed would be 15 years in jail, according to the Detroit Free Press.

The police charged Reed after the woman told them that she started feeling strange after finishing an alcoholic drink. The police say that he knew the woman would not be able to consent to anything having to do with sex.

Reed’s attorney’s told the AP Reed will be found innocent.

“This is by far the worst decision I’ve seen from the Wayne County prosecutor’s office,” defense lawyer Ben Gonek said. “There is no doubt that the jury will find (Reed) is not guilty. The publish will see what a waste of taxpayer dollars this is.”

Reed played in 27 games for the Tigers this season. He was 0-1 and had a 4.88 ERA.
