Former NFL players Christian Ballard, Greg Westbrooks suing NFLPA

Former players Christian Ballard and Greg Westbrooks are suing the NFL Players Association over the lack knowledge about possible head injuries.

Ballard, and Westbrooks, claim that the NFLPA did not inform the players adequately of the risks of head injuries, according to CBS Sports.

The lawsuit named former NFLPA presidents Trace Armstrong, Troy Vincent and Kevin Mawae.

The NFLPA responded to the lawsuit by releasing a statement saying,

“[The lawsuit] erroneously alleges that the NFLPA knowingly and fraudulently concealed from players the risks of head injuries players faced by playing in NFL games and practices over the last several decades. This lawsuit has no merit and we will defend our union and past Presidents.”

The two players say that there are many similar claims from former NFL Players, according to The New York Times.

This is the first time that former players have made a lawsuit against the NFLPA for head injuries. The NFL, however, has faced recent pressure from players about concussion related damages, as we previously reported.

Westbrooks played linebacker from 1975-1981 for four teams. Ballard was a fourth round draft pick by the Minnesota Vikings in 2011 and played for them in 2011 and 2012.
