'Frozen'’s popularity prevails as Elsa makes top 100 baby names list

Pretty soon there might be an influx of little girls named after a very icy Disney princess.

According to The Globe and Mail, an increased amount of parents have been naming their baby girls Elsa in response to the popularity of the 2013 Disney blockbuster Frozen. The name is currently #88 on BabyCenter's top 100 list of baby names.

According to BabyCenter’s managing editor Sarah Barret, there is a reason for this surge in the name’s popularity.

"Whilst the film's popular heroine is called Anna, Elsa offers a more unique name and is also a strong female role model," she says.

It seems that popular films have a great impact on what parents name their children. Last year, BabyCenter reports that the popular HBO series Game of Thrones had an influence on the name trend with the name Arya experiencing a rise in popularity. Similarly, in 2011 the names Jacob and Bella from Stephenie Meyer’s hit book series turned film saga Twilight, also cracked BabyCenter's top 100 with Bella reaching #26 for girl names and Jacob reaching #5 for boy names, according to NBC News.
