Hip-hop group Death Grips announce breakup

The experimental hip-hop group Death Grips made a surprise announcement on Facebook Wednesday, revealing that after only four years, they were calling it quits.

“We are now at our best and so Death Grips is over,” a picture of a handwritten note said in the Facebook post. “We have officially stopped. All currently scheduled live dates are canceled.”

While they won’t be touring any longer, they did say that their forthcoming double album The Powers That B is still set to be released from Harvest/Third Worlds Records later this year.

“Death Grips was and always has been a conceptual art exhibition anchored by sound and vision. Above and beyond a ‘band.’ to our truest fans, please stay legend,” the note ends.

The hip-hop group began performing back in 2010 and have released several albums during their short existence, Billboard reports, including The Money Store and No Love Deep Web.

According to MTV News, some of Death Grips’ scheduled shows including opening up for Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden as well as taking the stage at the Pitchfork Music Festival.

Death Grips consisted of drummer Zach Hill, Stefan Burnett and producer Andy Morin.
