Jake Peavy traded to the San Francisco Giants from the Boston Red Sox

Jake Peavy is making his way back to the National League West. On Saturday morning, the Boston Red Sox traded him to the San Francisco Giants for a pair of minor league pitching prospects.
Peavy, who is 1-9 with a 4.72 ERA, was last in the NL West when he was with the San Diego Padres a few years ago. In 2007, he captured the Cy Young Award with the Padres, according to USA Today.
Peavy will make his debut with the Giants on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The two teams are separated by a half game at the top of the division standings, reports The Associated Press.
Peavy played a key role in the Red Sox winning the World Series last year, after he was traded to them from the Chicago White Sox last July. He made three starts in the postseason for Boston.
The Giants, who are looking to get back to the postseason, hope he will bolster their hurting starting rotation. Matt Cain is on the disabled list, while fellow starters Tim Lincecum and Ryan Vogelsong have struggled. Both are posting ERA’s just under four.
The Red Sox will be receiving two Triple-A pitchers for Peavy. These two prospects are reliever Heath Hembree and starter Rafael Escobar.
