Jon Stewart asks 'Daily Show' viewers to help him buy CNN (Video)

One of Jon Stewart’s all-time favorite targets on The Daily Show is CNN, making fun of their around-the-clock dedication to bizarre stories and unintentionally funny ways of reporting. So why wouldn’t he want to buy it? During a segment on last night’s show, he suggested to viewers that they help him do just that.

Stewart was doing a segment on Rupert Murdoch’s attempt to buy Time Warner for $80 billion, even though his 21st Century Fox media conglomerate already owns a significant chunk of the media world. Even though Time Warner turned him down, he is still expected to keep after the company.

There would be a conflict of interest if Fox bought Time Warner, since Time Warner owns Fox News rival CNN. Murdoch would likely have to sell CNN off to get government approval for the deal and it’s estimated to be worth $10 billion.

Obviously, Stewart can’t afford that alone, so he launched LetsBuyCNN.com to raise funds for it.

Sadly though, as Entertainment Weekly points out, the Kickstarter campaign isn’t real. It’s all a joke.

But wouldn’t it be nice to have a 24-hour network owned by a comedian?
