People all over Los Angeles are saddened by the death of late the Beatles guitarist George Harrison's memorial tree which was ironically killed by an infestation of bark beetles.
Reuters noted that the tree fell amid California's epic drought on Tuesday.
The pine tree was dedicated after Harrison passed away in 2001 located at the peak of a hiking trail in L.A. Griffith Park. According to City Councilman Tom LaBonge,"It was weakened by the drought, bark beetles just attacked it. It had a quick demise. I happen to hike every day in Griffith Park and the tree just turned a bad corner this year."
He also noted that the tree will be replanted in the fall in place of the 12 feet tree which was killed. It was also notified to Harrison's widow, Olivia.
According to NY Daily, a plaque for The George Harrison Tree describes, “in memory of a great humanitarian who touched the world as an artist, a musician and a gardener.” It also holds Harrison's quote, “For the forest to be green, each tree must be green.”
Harrison was born in Liverpool in 1943. He was renounced as the Beatles leading guitarist. Some of his famous songs included "Here Comes the Sun," "Something" and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps."
