Novak Djokovic wins Wimbledon in five-set thriller

Novak Djokovic defeated Roger Federer Sunday in five sets to win his second Wimbledon title, also his seventh career major win.

Djokovic battled his way to win 6-7,6-4,7-6,5-7,6-4 in the three hours and 56 minute match. With the win he took back the No. 1 ranking from Rafael Nadal according to Bleacher Report.

Coming into today Djokovic had not won a major since the 2013 Australian Open. He had dropped three major finals in a row and six of his last seven according to USA Today. The trend almost continued against Federer.

Federer came back from two sets and a 5-2 deficit in the fourth to take the match to the deciding fifth set.

This loss will sting for Federer, especially if this is the closest he comes to a potential 18th Grand Slam, the most in history.

Djokovic told ESPN he gave himself a stern talking to in the bathroom after the fourth set. It worked, and gave him the mental edge over seven-time Wimbledon champion Federer.

Djokovic celebrated by dropping to his knees and tasting the grass. a
