A silly Kickstarter based around potato salad has managed to draw interest from the Internet, rocketing past the simple $10 goal to currently sit at nearly 12,000 with 25 days left to go.
Zack Danger Brown had one simple goal, which was to earn $10 dollars through Kickstarter in the hopes of making potato salad, something his page notes right at the start, “I’m making potato salad. … I haven’t decided what kind yet.”
Unsurprisingly the Internet loves silly ideas and goals, and has really gotten into it, with more than 1,600 people who have kicked in at least $1 dollar to make Brown’s simple goal happen.
Due to the success of the Kickstarter, and that it still has 25 days to go, he started including stretch goals, such as a pizza party at $75, or that he will attempt two different potato salads at $100. The Kickstarter currently is well on its way to make the last stretch goal, which at $3,000 Brown will rent a party hall and have a potato salad party. Those who donated $10 and above will be welcome to join him.
“I am a somewhat risk-averse person,” he told CNN. “I like potato salad but had never made it before and wasn’t sure it would be any good. Kickstarter helps people to realize their dreams, so it seemed like a perfect fit.”
Though not likely to reach anywhere near this amount by the end, but Kicktraq notes that the potato salad Kickstarter is trending towards possibly reaching $71,000 by Aug. 2, when the 30-day period is up.
