Reigning MVP Andrew McCutchen spearheads NL lineup

July 14 23:21 2014

2013 National League MVP Andrew McCutchen (of the Pittsburgh Pirates) is set to leadoff for the NL All-Stars in tomorrow night’s All-Star Game.
McCuthen ranks third in the league in batting average (.324), second in on-base percentage (.420) and tied for second in RBI (61). He will be appearing in his fourth straight Midsummer Classic, reports baseball-reference.com.
Following McCutchen in the lineup will be Los Angeles Dodgers sensation Yasiel Puig, who took the Majors by storm with a breakout first season last year.

Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki will hit third. He leads the Majors in batting average (.345) and on-base percentage (.435) and ranks second in slugging percentage (.613). His 21 home runs lead the NL, according to the MLB statistical leaders on ESPN.com.
Batting in the cleanup spot will be Paul Goldschmidt of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Following him will be Giancarlo Stanton, of the Miami Marlins, who will serve as the designated hitter.
“I think anybody who has had to deal with him and watch the impact he has on the game, an impact he has on the lineup, you have to give a great deal of respect not just on the power…but the ability he has to turn around the game on one pitch. I’m not sure I’ve seen a guy since [Mark] McGwire that hits the ball as hard as Stanton does,” NL manager Mike Matheny said, reports MLB.com.
Third baseman Aramis Ramirez, who is sixth in the lineup, will be the first of three Milwaukee Brewers to step into the batter’s box. Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Chase Utley will hit seventh.
The final two spots in the lineup belong to the Brewers, as catcher Jonathan Lucroy hits eighth and left fielder Carlos Gomez bats ninth.
The All-Star Game is 8 p.m. ET tomorrow night on FOX.
