Rihanna tweets then deletes '#FreePalestine,' urges fans to 'pray for peace'

Rihanna made a political statement on Twitter then quickly deleted it after realizing it would most likely incite backlash from fans. Although it was only up for eight minutes, her “#FreePalestine” tweet was retweeted 70,000 times.

The “We Found Love” singer has since opted to take a more neutral stance on the conflict between Israel and Palestine, tweeting instead, “Let's pray for peace and a swift end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict! Is there any hope?....”

A source close to Rihanna is now telling TMZ, "She deleted it because it was never meant to be tweeted. She didn't even realize it was a tweet until she started hearing from her fans."

According to Daily News, Rihanna isn’t the only celebrity to get some backlash for tweeting “#FreePalestine.”

After Dwight Howard tweeted the same hashtag, he deleted it then wrote “previous tweet was a mistake. I have never commented on international politics and never will.”
