Ryan Miller signs with Vancouver

Star free agent goaltender Ryan Miller signed with the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday, the first day of free agency.

Miller signed a three-year, $18 million contract to join the Canucks, becoming the third big name goalie, Roberto Loungo and Cory Schneider, to be on the team in two years, according to NHL.com.

Miller, a two-time US Olympian, played for the Buffalo Sabres for 11 seasons, winning 284 games with a 2.60 goals-against average, before being traded to the St. Louis Blues at the trade deadline in March.

Canucks general manager Jim Benning told reporters that Miller is a type of player that will make the younger players on the team better by the way he practices, according to ESPN.

Even though Miller has been in the NHL for 11 seasons and has been selected for two Olympics, he thinks he can still improve as a goalie.

“I think I’m still developing into the best player I can be,” he said. “I take that part of hockey seriously, finding new things to add to my game and taking consideration and coaching from other people.”

Miller was a fifth round draft pick by the Sabres in 1999 and has a 2.59 career GAA with a .915 save percentage in 559 career games, according to the Vancouver Sun.
