The defending Super Bowl Champions, the Seattle Seahawks, have lost tight end Anthony McCoy after he apparently tore his left Achilles tendon during training camp on Tuesday.

According to ESPN, McCoy tore his right Achilles tendon last year and missed the entire season.

This season he was expected to be the third-string tight end and provide a veteran back-up if either Zach Miller or Luke Wilson got injured.

After being drafted by the Seahawks in the 2010 NFL Draft, McCoy started in 14 games in the 2011 and 2012 seasons, according to

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll told ESPN that if it is his Achilles it would be a heartbreaker for McCoy and the team.

“Anthony has worked so hard to get back. If it was the same Achilles you might understand it, but it’s the other one.”

With McCoy out, the Seahawks will be looking for another back-up tight end. Practice squad player Cooper Helfet and rookie RaShaun Allen are expected to battle for the third-string position.
