The Orlando Magic waive longtime point guard Jameer Nelson

The Orlando Magic waived longtime point guard Jameer Nelson. After 10 seasons with the franchise, the Magic decided it was best they release him. Nelson is free to talk to any other team that could use his services in the backcourt.

The announcement of Nelson no longer being apart of the Magic came from the organization itself via Twitter. They thanked him for all he has done for the team over the past decade.

Nelson was going to earn $8 million in the final year of his contract. However, waiving Nelson means the Magic will only have to pay him $2 million. This business move saves the Magic $6 million in the process, according to CBS Sports.

Despite Nelson not being the all-star type of player he once was a couple of years ago, contending teams in need of a floor leader will be giving him a call this offseason.
Last season, he averaged 12.1 points, seven assists, and 40 percent shooting from the field overall. Numbers like those are the reason contending teams will seek his services as soon as possible.
