Top 10 celebrities who were once in the spotlight; where are they now?

Just as trends change, actors, actresses and musicians have their heightened moments and then unfortunately sometimes fall. What once was popular eventually fades and suddenly these once overly famous people are now out of the spotlight.

We don’t hear about what happened to certain people after their shows got cancelled or they stop making music. Did they retire? Or are they just staying behind the scenes producing? Are they simply laying low?

Actors like Chad Michael Murray and Freddie Prinze Jr. were teenage heartthrobs at one time but what happened to them? Gwen Stefani was known for being the lead singer of No Doubt in the 90s and had a stellar solo career but since then hasn’t been heard from.

After McAdams and her The Notebook co-star, Ryan Gosling broke up, we hadn’t heard much from the Mean Girls evil queen B. In the mid-2000’s, McAdams was seen in several box office hits one right after the other. Now, although she is lined up for several pre-production flicks, we miss seeing her in the spotlight like she used to be.

9. Mandy Moore

In the 90’s, Mandy Moore was known for her hit singles like “Candy,” “Crush,” and “Cry.” Soon after her bubblegum pop days were done, she became a well-known actress for her roles in A Walk to Remember and for her appearance in The Princess Diaries. After several romantic comedies, Moore started to slowly fall out of the spotlight only appearing in the 2010 hit animated film, Tangled.

8. Ashely Tisdale

This High School Musical sweetheart was a big deal back in 2006. Being one of the most popular made-for-TV movies of all time, the HSM crew eventually went their separate ways. Tisdale however released two solo albums and starred in several programs. However, since then her latest accomplishment is being the executive producer to ABC Family’s Young and Hungry starring Emily Osment.

7. Jesse McCartney

After leaving Dreamstreet in 2002 and having a very successful solo career, 27-year-old McCartney has done smaller things lately like starring in Lifetime made-for-TV movies and guest starring on Army Wives. His newest album after a long musical hiatus was released in June 2014.

6. Freddie Prinze Jr.

In the 90’s, Freddie Prinze Jr. was a heartthrob known for his appearances in I Know What You Did Last Summer and She’s All That. However, in the late 2000’s, the actor announced he was retiring from the movie world, only to reemerge slowly in 2010 doing voiceovers for several video games.

5. Missy Elliott

Known for her songs “Work It” and featured on Ciara’s “Lose Control,” this singer, songwriter, rapper and producer was featured on dozens of singles in the mid-2000s. Unfortunately in 2011, Elliott came out that she was suffering from a hyperthyroid condition called Graves’ disease preventing from her continuation with her music career.

4. Frankie Muniz

After starring in Malcolm in the Middle, former child star, Frankie Muniz took a hiatus for the most part after suffering from a transient ischemic attack in 2012. In 2012, he joined York, PA based band, Kingsfoil as a drummer.

Fergie is not only a talented actress and singer but she as also the front woman of the Black Eyed Peas. In 2006, she released The Dutchess and had several number one hits. Former singer of No Doubt, fashion designer, model and solo artist, Gwen Stefani is a superwoman. This mother of three was known for her two successful solo albums including the hits “Hollaback Girl,” “Cool,” “Rich Girl,” “Wind It Up,” and “The Sweet Escape.” For a while, Stefani concentrated on her family and her fashion line, L.A.M.B but now it has been revealed that the singer will be replacing Christina Aguilera on The Voice.

Chad Michael Murray was known for his role on One Tree Hill as the loveable Lucas Scott. He eventually jumped into the hearts of teenage girls around the world when he starred alongside Hilary Duff in A Cinderella Story. Since then, CMM hasn’t really done much, only smaller roles in a few movies and starring in a web series called Chosen.
