Trailer Park- 7/18 Edition: ‘Planes: Fire and Rescue’ and ‘Sex Tape’ fly into theaters

In theaters this weekend, two new releases go to extremes. While anarchy takes over the world for a few hours in one film, characters are trying to save a park in another. Also in the mix is a film about a couple recording their intimate moments. Disney’s animated fire adventure, however, is the more family friendly option.

Engine problems cause a famous air racer to change his course and quit racing in Planes: Fire and Rescue. Now, by joining the crew at Piston Peak National Park, he must put his celebrity aside to learn the ins and outs of aerial firefighting in order to save and protect the park from wildfires. Disney’s PG animated adventure is playing for one hour and twenty-three minutes in regular and 3D theaters.

A couple tries to spice up their love life by filming themselves having sex in Sex Tape. Before they have a chance to delete their home movie, it ends up going up on the cloud and synching up with emails and mobile devices, accidentally getting into the hands of their friends and family. The two go on a mission to destroy all copies. Jason Segel and Cameron Diaz star in the one hour and thirty-four minute comedy. It’s rated R for sex, nudity, language and drugs.

Chaos ensues once again in The Purge: Anarchy. In the sequel to the hit 2013 film, five strangers, each with their own story, come together as they try to stay safe during the country’s annual lawless twelve hours. The thriller runs for one hour and forty-three minutes. It’s rated R for violence and language.

A family man in his mid-thirties struggles to find himself in Wish I was Here. As his life begins to crumble around him, he is forced to come to terms with what’s happening and make decisions that will shape his life. The limited released comedic drama is written, directed and stars Zach Braff, alongside Kate Hudson and Mandy Patinkin. The one hour and fifty-four minute film is rated R for language and sex.

A scientist focuses his studies on the evolution of eyes in I Origins. After falling for a woman with hazel eyes, he searches for the person with the same eye structure. During his journey, the line between science and the works of God begins to blur. The one hour and fifty-seven minute drama is available in limited theaters. It’s rated R for sex, nudity and language.

A young child finds similarities between the people in her life and ravens in Among Ravens. When a nature photographer joins a group of friends on their 4th of July vacation, he provides a new perspective which impacts each person individually. The unrated comedic drama is playing in limited theaters for one hour and thirty-nine minutes.

An influential evangelist is accused of murdering a teenage girl in Persecuted. Framed for the crime by a Senator, he goes on the run and finds that his whole religious community is being harassed. The PG-13 drama is running in limited theaters for one hour and thirty-three minutes.

A young man falls for a woman with a strange illness in Mood Indigo. The love of his life has a flower growing in her lungs. The only way to keep her alive is to envelop her with flowers. The limited released sci-fi drama is written and directed by Michel Gondry and based on Boris Vian’s novel. The unrated French film stars Audrey Tautou and Romain Duris and is subtitled in English. It plays for two hours and ten minutes.

The evolution of video games and their effect on society is the subject of the documentary Video Games: The Movie. The unrated film features commentary by the inventors who paved the way for the success of the industry as well as gaming icons and actresses. The limited released film plays for one hour and forty minutes.

The effect of music on patients is shown in Alive Inside. The documentary specifically focuses on music’s ability to reinvigorate a person’s life and help fight memory loss. The unrated film is playing in limited theaters for one hour and thirteen minutes.

This week’s comedy is geared toward adults with an R-rating. Next week, the jokes get a little tamer as two new PG-13 comedies, And So It Goes and The Fluffy Movie hit theaters. Also entering the box office race next week are Duane “The Rock” Johnson’s Hercules and Scarlett Johansson’s Lucy.
