Typhoon slams the Philippines, killing at least one and forcing thousands to evacuate

A typhoon with wind gusts up to 155 miles per hour slammed the Philippines, killing at least one person and evacuating hundreds of thousands of others Tuesday night.

Three fishermen were reported missing, reported the Agence France-Presse.

Rammasun, the name of the typhoon, carried wind gusts which caused damage to the city of Manila, which just missed the eye of the storm.

People were urged to stay indoors as many areas remained without power, and government offices and schools were closed.

About 450,000 evacuated their homes.

The Category Three storm made landfall on the island stronger than the forecast predicted, reported Mashable.

Many underestimated the storm, including The Joint Typhoon Warning Center, which predicted the storm would be a Category One or Two.

Once Rammasun leaves the Phillipines, it is expected to make landfall in southwest China and Hanoi, Vietnam on Friday.
