Adrien Brody makes daring escapes in History Channel's Harry Houdini trailer (Video)

Since it doesn’t seem like Hugh Jackman is going to play Harry Houdini on the stage any time soon, the closest show business has come to actually producing something about the iconic magician is the History Channel’s Houdini. The new miniseries stars Oscar winner Adrien Brody as the title character.

The full trailer surfaced on YouTube last week, showing Brody making daring escapes from chains and water-filled glass containers, just like the real Houdini. Kristen Connolly is also seen in the trailer, playing Houdini’s wife.

Houdini tracks the typical rags-to-riches story, showing how the magician rose from poverty to becoming the most famous entertainer in the world during the 1920s. It will air over two nights, beginning on Sept. 1 at 9 p.m., with the second part airing the next night.

Hollywood seemed to go through a Houdini fixation in the past year, but Houdini is the only project to come to fruition so far. Jackman had long been working on a Broadway show about Houdini, but he dropped out and that seems to be on hold indefinitely.

Back in May, Johnny Depp entered talks for a Lionsgate movie called The Secret Life of Houdini: The Making of America's First Superhero. Considering all the projects Depp has to work on, this one might fall through the cracks though.
