Home runs from J.J. Hardy, Manny Machado and Chris Davis power Orioles past Cardinals

The long ball was in full force for the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night as they pounded the Saint Louis Cardinals 12-2. The Orioles recorded a season-high six home runs.

J.J. Hardy belted two of the homers as he notched his 11th multihomer game. His two bombs were a solo shot and a three-run blast.
Manny Machado, Adam Jones, Chris Davis and Ryan Flaherty were the other Orioles to go yard, as Baltimore posted double figures for the first time in three and a half months.
"This is baseball. This happens," Saint Louis manager Mike Matheny said, reports The Associated Press. "Sometimes it doesn't matter what you do. One of those nights."
The Orioles commemorated the 60th anniversary of their move to Baltimore by wearing 1954 throwback uniforms. Prior to coming to Baltimore, the franchise resided in Saint Louis and was called the Browns.
Orioles’ starter Chris Tillman improved to 9-5 by going 6 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits.
Justin Masterson was making his second start for the Cardinals and failed to get out of the third inning, yielding five runs on seven hits.
Baltimore maintains its five game lead in the AL East by improving to 66-49. Saint Louis (61-53) drops behind Pittsburgh in the NL Central standings and sits two games back of Milwaukee, according to ESPN.
