'Mad Men' actor Vincent Kartheiser to star in Garry Marshall's play about Billy Wilder's 'Double Indemnity'

Vincent Kartheiser has found a unique role for himself off-Broadway. The Mad Men actor will star in Garry Marshall’s Billy & Ray as iconic director Billy Wilder.

The play is a comedy directed by Marshall and written by Mike Bencivenga. Larry Pine will co-star as Raymond Chandler, the author of Double Indemnity. Wilder and Chandler had a contentious relationship as they worked together to adapt the book into a film. Of course, the resulting 1944 movie is one of the icons of classic Hollywood cinema and is regarded as the turning point in film noir.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sophie von Haselberg will play Wilder’s secretary and Drew Gehling of Jersey Boys fame will play a studio executive (likely from Paramount).

Marshall previously staged the play in California at Burbank’s Falcon Theatre last year. Deadline reports that the New York production will be staged at the Vineyard Theatre, with previews starting on Oct. 1. The official opening is set for Oct. 20.
