Michael Phelps grabs gold at first International Meet since return

Former retired swimmer Michael Phelps has just competed in his first International Swim meet since coming out of retirement. The 29-year-old helped the United States in the Pan Pacific championships on Friday, swimming to beat the Australians in their own water.

According to Yahoo Sports Phelps was fourth in the 100meter freestyle relay where he swam with teammates Ryan Lochte, Conor Dwyer and Matt McLean. The team won the 4x200m free relay over Japan and Phelps ultimately won himself a gold medal for his relay work. Phelps told The Associated Press, “Being able to get back on the podium- it feels amazing. It’s been a good first day.”
Phelps wasn’t the only swimmer to make an impressive stride, NBC Sports reports Missy Franklin also attended and competed in the Pan Pacific after having back spasms only three days ago. She also competed in relays with her American teammates, winning the 4x200 free relay and earning a gold medal.
