Mischa Barton's Beverly Hills home in foreclosure, behind $100,000 on mortgage payments

Mischa Barton's home in Beverly Hills is reportedly in foreclosure because she is five months behind on mortgage payments.

The former O.C. star owes $100,000 in back payments on her 8 bedroom, 11 bath house, according to TMZ, who got a hold of the default notice.

Barton purchased the home back in 2005 and had to get a $4.2 million loan in order to afford the $6.4 million house. The foreclosure process was triggered after she missed five months.

The actress had been trying to sell the house for the past four years, initially putting it on the market in 2010 for $8.695 million. She has had no luck each time she has re-listed the property. To try and afford the mortgage payments, she even leased the house for $35,000 a month.

Since starring in The O.C., Barton has had her struggles, People note, including a DUI arrest in 2007 and then having a breakdown and being on psychiatric hold. "It was terrifying," she admitted in 2013. "Straight out of Girl, Interrupted. Story of my life."

Barton has been trying to put her career back together, including appearing in Throwdown, Hope Lost and the TV film Gutsy Frog.
