In the battle of twerking music videos, Nicki Minaj has come out on top. The rapper’s new “Anaconda” video has broken the record for most-watched Vevo video in 24 hours, a record previously held by Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball.”
Vevo announced on Twitter that “Anaconda” scored 19.6 million views in its first 24 hours. The video was launched on Tuesday and the track is the first single from Minaj’s upcoming album.
Since Tuesday, “Anaconda” has racked up 37.8 million views on YouTube.
As the Hollywood Reporter points out, Cyrus previously held the 24-hour record with 19.3 million views. Cyrus also held the record before that for “We Can’t Stop,” which earned 10.7 million views in 24 hours.
The other big music video of the week, Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off,” also did well on YouTube, but Minaj left her in the dust. The video, which also features Swift doing some twerking, has earned 26.4 million views since Monday.
