Shane Victorino heads back to the DL for a third time

The Boston Red Sox placed right fielder Shane Victorino on the disabled list Friday due to a back injury. Victorino’s absence clears the way for new acquired outfielder Yoenis Cespedes.

"Still some low-back tightness the other night," manager John Farrell said. "Pending the results of the MRI it will give us some definitive course of action going forward."

Victorino has been plagued with injuries all year as he now makes his third trip to the disabled list this year. He has only played 30 games for Boston this season with a .268 batting average according to CBS Boston. Victorino has missed 71 games so far this season due to a nagging right hamstring strain that put him on the disabled list twice.

After returning from his second stint on the disabled list, Victorino went 11-for-32 with a .382 on-base percentage according to Mass Live.

The Boston Red Sox have recalled Mookie Betts to the Major Leagues. He will start in center field Friday night against left-hander Chris Capuano.
