Spongebob Squarepants is an animated television show that has been on since 1999. Created by marine biologist and animator Stephen Hillenburg, the show is about a sponge who works as a fry cook at an underwater restaurant. The show is currently still on the air after nine seasons and has become the highest rated show to ever air on Nickelodeon. In total the show was able to generate over $8 billion in merchandising revenue. It is still one of the most popular shows on television today.

After a few successful seasons everyone involved wanted to take it to another level. In 2004 the creators of Spongebob Squarepants decided to make a Spongebob movie. It was called The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. Now ten years later, the same people have released a trailer for their next film, The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water.

In light of the new upcoming film, here are the top ten episodes of Spongebob Squarepants.

Mr. Krabs, Spongebob’s boss and the owner of the Krusty Krab, give Spongebob and Patrick the task of painting the inside of his house. When the two get paint on Mr. Krabs’ first dollar, they begin to panic. This episode is great because the tag team of Spongebob and Patrick is both bizarre and hilarious.

This is a very good episode because it stereotypes Squidward, Spongebob’s neighbor, so well. He typically gets annoy at everything Spongebob and Patrick do, but eventually will join in just to beat them at their own game. This is exactly what happens in this episode and it really sets the tone for Squidward.

One of the many musical episodes, Spongebob sings a song about his ripped pants. The episode was basically about Spongebob’s need to be funny. When ripping his pants makes a few fish laugh, he gets a little carried away. This is the song that follows his cruel and unnecessary joke.

This episode is about fishing season and Patrick finds hundreds of hooks floating in the water. He thinks of it as an amusement park riding the hooks up near the surface and jumping off at the last second. When Spongebob joins in, Mr. Krabs tells him never to do it again at risk of losing his fry cook. This is a good episode because it sends a good message about following the rules.

Spongebob is one of the nicest sea creatures alive. So naturally when a doodle of him comes to life, it is the exact opposite of him. The doodle is evil. This episode is about survival of the fittest and the doodle is trying to take Spongebob out of the picture. It is very funny and different from many other episodes.

The gang becomes a marching band in this episode to play at halftime of the bubble bowl. The transformation of the characters in this episode is both hilarious and enlightening. The band changes from a group of incompetent goofballs into a well-oiled marching band machine.

This is such a subtle but excellent episode. One character in particular makes this episode great – a single con man who continually shows up to scam Spongebob and Patrick. It just shows how gullible the two sea creatures are meanwhile their main method of selling chocolate is to lie about their product.

Mr. Krabs is all about the money and decides to keep the Krusty Krab open 24/7. He in turn puts a sign on the store that reads “open forever”. This is one of the few scary episodes of the show and brought to light the now famous and fictitious villain, ‘The Hash Slinging Slasher’

After getting into an argument, Spongebob and Patrick end up competing against each other in the fry cook games. Based off the Olympics, this episode surrounds the two main characters competing in foolish games. It is quite funny.

There is nobody that Squidward dislikes as much as Spongebob. So when the two get lost in the middle of nowhere delivering the first ever Krusty Krab pizza, things can get a little out of control. Spongebob is hilarious as always just trying to stay up-beat. The song is one of the funnier aspects of the episode.
