Top 10 favorite Amy Poehler roles

The 2014 Emmy awards will be airing tonight and showcasing some of televisions best actors and actresses.

The competition is high for best actress in a comedy series and former Saturday Night Live star, Amy Poehler is up against some seasoned actresses.

Starring as Leslie Knope in the hysterical comedy, Parks and Recreation, we will have to find out tonight who will win the honor while being against stars like Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Edie Falco, Lena Dunham and Melissa McCarthy.

We remember Poehler from her early days at SNL performing in skits that had us crying while we laughed. From her early days on the comedy sketch show to being an award-winning actress, we’re looking back to some of her best moments.

In honor of the 66th Annual Primetime Emmy’s airing tonight, is counting down our top ten favorite Amy Poehler roles from animated movies to sketches on SNL where it all began to celebrate her nomination for best actress in a comedy series.

While performing on SNL we loved seeing the comedian sit alongside Maya Roudolph portraying two moms in the Bronx with their very own talk show. We adore how on point their accents are

9. “Dakota Fanning”

In one SNL skit, Poehler portrayed young Dakota Fanning on her very own “talk show.” It made our list because of how mature Poehler made Fanning seem to be as a kid.

Starring as adorable chipette Eleanor, Poehler went behind the camera for this film and instead did the voice for the girl chipmunks.

Amy starred as herself for this skit on SNL as an anchorwoman alongside Tina Fey and Seth Meyers. Her jokes about what was going on in the world were hysterical and even though she wasn’t putting on a front as a character, her personality made our list for this one.

Usually a contestant on the Jeopardy spoof, Poehler would often play her version of Sharon Osbourne. A small dog of sorts usually accompanied her high-pitched voice but the impersonation of her was always hysterical.

The 2008 comedy Baby Mama, Poehler plays the surrogate mother to her real life BFF Tina Fey’s baby who’s looking to adopt. In one of her first film debuts, Poehler played the trashy mom-to-be perfectly.

During SNL, Poehler played no other than Barbie in “Barbie’s Dream House.” Surprisingly, her take on the plastic doll was head on and just how most of us probably imagine Barbie to be.

The 2004 comedy flick, Mean Girls, mad e movie history. Starring Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried, Rachel McAdams and Tina Fey, Fey’s SNL friend made a cameo as Regina George’s mom. She made our list for portraying this older mom who was just trying to be much cooler.

While on SNL, Poehler often played the former first lady to Bill Clinton, Hilary Clinton. It was especially realistic when she stood next to Tina Fey as Sarah Palin.
