Amazon to breathe life back into Patrick Warburton's 'The Tick'(Report)

The Tick, the cult-classic parody super hero show, is making a comeback thanks to Amazon and Sony.

The 2001 live-action show, based on the 1980's super hero parody comic of the same name by cartoonist Ben Edlund, starred Family Guy star Patrick Warburton as the blue spandex costumed super hero. He starred alongside former Lost star Nestor Carbonell as Batmanuel, a Latino parody character of Batman.

According to People, dynamic duo Warburton and Edlund are set to return as star and writer/producer respectively. Amazon, Sony, Warburton nor Edlund have yet to confirm the deal publicly.

IGN reports that The Tick would be brought back as a green-lit pilot as a part of Amazon's Pilot Season, a feature in which Amazon customers can vote and help create Amazon's next original series, much like producer Steven Soderbergh's Red Oaks and actor Ron Perlman's Hand of Gods.

Edlund, who wrote and produced the original live-action show, created The Tick at age 17 when New England Comics, a retail comic book store in Boston, asked him to draw for an upcoming issue. After a last minute change in their production schedule, it resulted in an entire issue devoted to the Big Blue Bug, according to an interview with Edlund for Animation World Magazine.

The Tick, which ran for only nine episodes on Fox, also starred Brothers & Sisters star David Burke as The Tick's moth-uniformed side kick Arthur and All My Children star Liz Vassey as Captain Liberty, a Wonder Woman/Captain America parody character. The Tick was also adapted into a Fox-produced animated show in 1994 that ran for three seasons.
