Black List writer Christina Hodson's female-centric 'Eden Project' picked up by Sony

Sony Pictures closed a deal for Black List writer Christina Hodson's spec script about a female-centric science fiction film, Eden Project.

Sources who spoke with The Hollywood Reporter insist that the deal was for nearly $750,000. Hodson's scripts have appeared on the Black List twice, 2012's Shut In and 2013's Seed.

Little is known about the plot of the film aside from that it is meant to be the first film in a trilogy and follows two female characters.

Eden Project will be produced by Matthew Plouffe, Tobey Maguire and his Material production banner, Entertainment Weekly reports. They were the ones who brought the script to the studio.

Hanna Minghella, Columbia Pictures president, has been tapped to oversee the project for the studio.

Sony is currently working with Material for an adaptation of the YA novel The 5th Wave, which stars Chloe Moretz and Lieve Schrieber. The film is currently in preproduction but will start shooting next month.

Material has been busy in recent weeks and recently closed a deal for the Maguire-starring flick Pawn Sacrifice.
