James Corden officially named Craig Ferguson's successor for 'Late Late Show'

CBS officially announced on Monday that comedian James Corden will be replacing Craig Ferguson in 2015 as the host of The Late Late Show.

Back in early August, it was reported that CBS had decided that the Gavin and Stacey star would be taking the reins from Ferguson, who had been the host of the late-night talk show for nearly a decade. Now the network is finally confirming the news.

"James Corden is a rare entertainment force who combines irresistible charm, warmth and originality with a diverse range of creative instincts and performance talent," CBS Entertainment chairman Nina Tassler said in a statement.

The 26-year-old British comedian is a Tony Award-winning performer and also won a BAFTA back in 2008 for Best Comedy Performance on Gavin and Stacey. Corden recently appeared alongside Mark Ruffalo and Keira Knightley in Begin Again and has a starring role in the upcoming musical Into the Woods.

"I can't describe how thrilled and honoured I am to be taking over from the brilliant Craig Ferguson," Corden said. "To be asked to host such a prestigious show on America's #1 network is hugely exciting."

Ferguson previously announced his departure from the Late Late Show back in April, not long after it was revealed that Stephen Colbert would be taking over for David Letterman on the Late Show. It is believed that he will host a half-hour talk show in primetime for Tribune Media-owned stations.

CBS has not yet determined when Corden will make his Late Late Show debut.
