One Direction fans furious with 'The Daily Show' over terrorism joke

One Direction fans are hopping mad after Tuesday night's episode of The Daily Show made a terrorism joke involving the band.

The segment focused on how the United States was attempting to avoid calling action against ISIS a "war," Billboard reports.

During that bit, correspondent Jessica Williams spoke about how new terrorist organizations appear to keep popping up and jokingly mentioned a new one, which amusingly included a One Direction member.

"Just as you were talking, a new terrorist group formed with one member each from ISIS, Al Nursa, Al Qaeda, One Direction and the Zetas drug cartel," Williams claimed. "They like to hijack planes, Jon [Stewart], and take them to Cuba. They're really taking it old school. Very vintage."

According to the Los Angeles Times, the fans are furious with the throwaway joke because one member of the British pop group, Zayn Malik, is actually a practicing Muslim.

Fans were so furious that they created several hashtags on Twitter and Instagram to let their outrage be known, with a couple mentioning Malik, despite the Daily Show not mentioning any specific member.

Unable to take a joke, One Directioners have created several trending hashtags, including "TheDailyShowGoneTooFar, #ZaynDefenseSquad and #ZaynSavesNotKills.
