Pixar releases first teaser trailer for 'Inside Out'

Pixar has brought us some of the greatest animated movies of all time, and their new movie Inside Out looks like it's going to live up to that legacy. Now, the studio has released the first teaser trailer for the film.

The trailer, released today on the official Disney Pixar YouTube page, opens on a sort of best of reel of Pixar's past movies, highlighting the emotions we experienced in these films: joy, fear, anger, disgust and sadness (which Pixar has certainly had a lot of.)

We then get our first look at footage of the movie as the trailer asks us to wonder where these emotions live. We see the inner workings of 11 year old Riley's head, and we are introduced to the main characters, each of whom is a different emotion in her brain: Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling), and Fear (Bill Hader).

The film will be directed by Peter Docter, who also previously directed Monsters Inc and Up. According to Entertainment Weekly, the story was inspired by Docter's daughter Elie and her transformation into a pre-teen, which lead Docter to wonder what was going on inside her brain.

The movie will explore the inner workings of the brain in interesting ways such as with the existence of "dream productions," where dreams are shot every night in a studio like a Hollywood movie.

And though the movie will be fantastical in this way, Docter also said he did some research into the way the brain handles emotions with the help of some neurologists while writing the movie.

Inside Out will be released in theaters on June 19.
