Trump Taj Mahal casino to stay open through November

The Trump Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic City will remain open through the month of November.

The Associated Press reported that Trump Entertainment Resorts, which owns the Taj Mahal, pushed back the closing date of Nov. 13 and said the casino will stay open for the entire month.

As previously reported, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last month and has since closed the Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino.

Trump Entertainment is hoping that it will not have to close the Taj Mahal but plans to re-finance have not been promising. Because of that, the casino will likely remain open a little longer, but ultimately suffer the same fate that many other resorts in the city have over the past year.

"As of now we don't have any plan to close the Taj, but that could change next month," said Robert Griffin, CEO of Trump Entertainment. "We still need our plan to be approved, and we need assistance from the state with no assurance we're going to get it."

"We can't say we're not going to close the Taj before the end of the year. But we can say it won't close in November."

The gambling town of Atlantic City has been struggling financially for years thanks to an unstable economy and regional casinos that have kept folks closer to home. When and if the Taj Mahal does close, the city will only have seven casinos left standing.
