'Uncle Buck' becoming TV series

With TV being the centerpiece of filmed entertainment, it shouldn't be surprising that many well-liked movies are becoming TV series. Of course some, like Fargo and About a Boy, have been more successful than others, like Bad Teacher, didn't quite pan out. Nevertheless, another classic will soon be making the transition from big-to-small screen: John Hughes' Uncle Buck.

Variety reports that the hit 1989 comedy comedy is now becoming a multi-camera half-hour sitcom at ABC. The station has already given the series a script order, with MADtv graduates Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley are writing and executive producing.

Also producing is Will Packer, the producer behind such box-office hit comedy films as the Think Like a Man movies, Ride Along and About Last Night. At the moment, no stars have been announced.

This is actually not the first time that the Hughes movie will be a TV series. Back in the early '90s, CBS tried to adapt the series with Kevin Meaney in the title role. The show received bad reviews and ratings from critics and audiences, and only lasted one season.

This is just one of the movies being announced as a TV series right now. Within the past couple days and months, everything from Big to Problem Child to Minority Report to Real Genius being made into a TV series.

There were also plans to have Say Anything... be a TV series, but Cameron Crowe and John Cusack put a stop to it yesterday. There also also now plans to have Rush Hour be a TV series too.
