Ben Savage to guest star on 'Criminal Minds' as a young Agent Jason Gideon

Criminal Minds has a major guest star coming to take on the role of a former agent who was much loved by fans in the early days of the show.

According to TVGuide, actor Ben Savage, best known for his role on Boy Meets World, will be playing the role of former FBI agent Jason Gideon. Actor Mandy Patinkin, who left the show due to creative differences, previously held the role.

Savage will appear in the 13th episode as a young Gideon, who worked with FBI Agent Rossi (Joe Mantegna) back in the early days of the Behavioral Analysis Unit. The flashbacks occur because a case the team has in the present day causes Rossi to recall a case in the 70s that he worked on with Gideon.

Robert Dunne is set to come on as a young David Rossi.

Executive producer Erica Messer made a statement to TVGuide saying, “I’ve wanted to go back to how the BAU all started and now being in Season 10, it feels like it’s time. I’m really excited about it to show our heroes from the beginning in the bomb shelter in Quantico.”

Cinema Blend reported that Gideon left Criminal Minds in season three and this will be the first time he has appeared on the show. Gideon has been mentioned on the show since the departure of Patinkin.

Dunne portrayed a young Rossi in another episode of Criminal Minds, “The Fallen,” when Rossi remembers that a homeless man he encountered living on the streets is someone from his past.

The episode is slated to air in January. Messer co-wrote the episode with actress Kirsten Vangsness, who plays tech analyst Penelope Garcia.
