Cowardly lion costume from 'The Wizard of Oz' is being autioned off, maybe for $1 million

“Put ‘em up, Put ‘em up,” for auction that is. The original Cowardly Lion costume from the 1939 classic, The Wizard of Oz is being put up for sale along with other Hollywood items.

According to ABC News, the spokesperson for costume owner, James Comisar has informed the public of the Bonhams auction that will take place in New York on Monday.

The outfit is being advertised as the authentic costume worn by the cowardly lion actor, Bert Lahr. A lucky fan’s purchase will also include their owning of the late actor’s sculpted likeness. Auctioneers anticipate a big money bid due to a previously sold secondary Cowardly Lion costume that was auctioned for $1 million.

As reported by NY Daily News, Comisar has a true passion for his assortment of TV memorabilia, which includes shows such as I Love Lucy and Lost. After the sale of his Cowardly Lion costume, James plans to use the money to open an exhibit showcasing his collection.
