Michael Fassbender could play Steve Jobs in Danny Boyle's upcoming biopic

Christian Bale will not play Steve Jobs in director Danny Boyle's upcoming biopic, but Boyle may have a strong replacement in mind. And turns out, it's a fellow superhero star. For recent reports are suggesting that new Magneto himself, Michael Fassbender, could take over for Bale in the new movie, scripted by Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network).

Deadline suggested the recent casting change in their report today, but is careful to stress that it may not come together. After all, rumors of stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Bale being in the movie were constantly confirmed, then denied. But it appears that, thanks to some availability in-between Fassbender's shooting schedule for X-Men: Apocalypse, production on the biopic may be able to gear up this winter with Fassbender as the Apple icon.

The movie, based on Walter Icaacson's book, has been in the works since Jobs' passing, but took some breathing time while the Ashton Kutcher-starring Jobs rushed into production and Sorkin split writing duties between this script and his work on The Newsroom.

While Variety is more confident that Fassbender is going to get the job, it is still up in the air as far as any confirmations are concerned. More details will come with time. With Bale's surprise leaving, though, someone has to take the job (no pun intended), and Fassbender would certainly be a fine job for the part.

Fassbender, recently seen in X-Men: Days of Future Past and Frank (see our review here) this year, is currently filming a role in Derek Cianfrance's The Light Between Oceans and Trespass Against Us, Slow West, Macbeth and an upcoming untitled Terrance Malick film in post-production and set to hit theaters next year.
