New Jersey man struck in head, killed by tape measure

A New Jersey man who was delivering sheet rock to a construction site was killed after a tape measure hit him in the head.

The Associated Press noted that the freak accident happened when a Gary Anderson, 58, stopped to talk to a coworker in a nearby truck. Before the victim could return to his vehicle, he was hit in the head by a falling object and collapsed immediately.

Construction was halted and he was transported to a local hospital where he died a short time later.

FOXNews.com reported that a one-pound tape measure actually became dislodged from a construction worker’s belt 50 stories up and struck Anderson.

Authorities said that the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration was investigating the incident.

Anderson, who worked for AJD Construction, did not have a hard hat on when he was hit, however, he did have one in his truck. It is company policy that anyone on a construction site wear a hard hat at all times.
