NFL moves Bills, Jets game to Detroit on Monday as snow continues falling in Buffalo

Snow is still hitting the Buffalo area, making it impossible for the Bills to play their Sunday game against the New York Jets. On Thursday afternoon, the NFL agreed, moving the game to Detroit’s Ford Field.

The Bills had initially hoped to play Sunday at Ralph Wilson Stadium, but the storm made that sound like wishful thinking. Ultimately, the NFL discussed several sites, including Detroit and Washington, D.C., since both the Lions and Redskins are away this weekend. Playing the game in MetLife Stadium would have given the Jets an unfair advantage.

Late Thursday, the NFL announced that the game has been officially moved to Detroit. Kickoff was moved to Monday at 7 p.m. ET and will only be broadcast on CBS stations in the Buffalo and NYC areas. DirecTV will carry it on their Sunday Ticket nationally, though.

“As mentioned earlier today, public safety resources in western New York must be fully available to deal with the recovery from the storm,” the NFL said in a statement. “We continue our discussions with the team and the Red Cross on ways the NFL can support the community through this weather disaster.”

The Bills haven’t been able to practice all week, but are heading to Detroit, where the Lions’ facilities will be made available, NFL spokesman Michael Signora told The New York Times.

This is a must-win game for the Bills, who are currently 5-5 and still in the playoff hunt.
