Teacher facing charges after video shows him dragging student

A gym teacher in Stockton, California is facing charges after a video surfaced showing him dragging a female student and trying to force her into a swimming pool.

News 10 noted that the footage, which was shot by another student, shows physical education teacher Denny Peterson, dragging a 14-year-old girl who did not want to get into the water.

In the cell phone video, other students are seen at times intervening and trying to pull the girl from Peterson.

The teen did not want to participate and get into the pool because she just had her hair done that morning for an event later that evening.

Attorney Gilbert Somera is representing the student and her family. He points out that not only is she being dragged, but also telling the teacher that her chest is close to being exposed.

"Regardless of her participation it should disgust you how this man put his hands on a 14-year-old girl. She said multiple times, 'my top is falling down,'" Somera said.

Somera also said that the teacher could have punished the girl another way instead of forcefully dragging her in front of her classmates.

Peterson was placed on paid leave after the incident, which happened in August, but later assigned to another school in the district. Officials announced Thursday that he is facing child abuse charges.
