Zach Braff in talks to direct remake of George Burns' 'Going in Style'

Zach Braff's return to the directing scene, Wish I Was Here, wasn't quite as successful as he would have liked, both critically and financially. Essentially it didn't quite living up to his Garden State success ten year prior. But that's not stopping him from moving away from the director's chair, and he seems to have his next film lined up. For Braff in now in talks to direct a remake of Going in Style, the 1979 comedy starring George Burns, for New Line.

Deadline got the exclusive on the deal. The original film, starring Art Carney and Lee Strasberg in addition to Burns, centered on a group of geriatrics who, when bored with their lives, decide to knock off a bank. Scripting the remake is Ted Melfi, the writer/director behind the recently-released St. Vincent.

Producing the remake will be Donald De Line, while Tony Bill, the producer of the original late '70s film, will also be on board to executive produce this new movie.

This is just one project Braff is working on as a director. Currently, he is filming a pilot for a dark comedy called Self Promotion for MTV, as The Hollywood Reporter covered. This is not the first time Braff has directed for TV, as he has helmed several episodes of Scrubs during its time on the air.

After the backlash he received for getting his project funded through Kickstarter, it appears that he is trying to find comfort in the studio fold, either on the small screen or the big one.
